Export your Timeline JSON.
Choose your phone. These steps follow Google’s current menus, and the exported file stays on your device until you select it above.
Start in your phone’s Settings app, not Google Maps.

Start here
Open the Settings app
Use the system Settings app on the phone or tablet that stores your Timeline.

Find Timeline
Open the Timeline controls
Menu names can vary slightly by phone maker.

Create the file
Export Timeline data
Under Timeline, tap the export option and approve the confirmation.

Finish
Choose a folder and save
Pick somewhere easy to find, such as Downloads. Wait for the “Export complete” notification.
Start in Google Maps, then save the export to Files.

Open Google Maps
Use the Google Maps app on the iPhone or iPad that stores your Timeline.

Open privacy settings
Go to Location & Privacy
Tap your profile picture or initial in the top-right corner.

Create the file
Tap Export Timeline data
Google Maps prepares the JSON and opens the iOS share sheet.

Finish
Save the export to Files
Choose a folder you will remember. The file is saved as
location-history.json.
